Holidays

We Bosnians, celebrate a number religious, national and family holidays, some of which vary between religious. We commonly also celebrate the holidays of other faiths with their relatives and friends. Many traditions are associated with New Year's celebrations, including parties at our homes with special meals and table setting. Muslim holidays are based on the lunar calender, so fall on different dates each year. Their most important annual event is holy month of Ramadan, during which Muslims fast from sunrise to sunset. Catholics and Orthodox Bosnians celebrate Easter and Christmas on different dates because the Orthodox Church follows an older calendar. A special event for Orthodox families is slava. All people Bosina and Herzegovina participate in public holidays such as Labour Day, Victory Day, Independence and National Statehood Day.
