Today we took a trip to the Musée du Louvre, or just the Louvre. It is the largest national museum of France, and the most visited museum in the world, and a historical monument. It is a central landmark and is located on the Right Bank of the Seine. Nearly 35,000 from pehistoric to the 19th century are displayed here. The museum is housed in the Palais du Louvre which began as a fortress in the 12th century. The museum is divided upon 8 different sections: Egyptian Antiquities; Near Eastern Antiquities; Greek, Etruscan, and Roman Antiquities; Islamic Art; Sculpture; Decorative Arts; Paintings; and Prints and Drawings. The Painting section has over 6,000 works and is home to the Mona Lisa.
